The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Most Powerful Swords In Middle-Earth
8. Hadhafang
The art of adaptation is give and take. The source material was, naturally, a vital component in building the Peter Jackson movie trilogy, but Jackson still made an effort to add his own touch to the lore of Middle-Earth. Like Tolkien himself, Jackson knew adding history to otherwise throwaway props made the world stronger, and that's why he went in on this sword.
Also known as The Throng-Cleaver, this Elven sword - called Hadhafang - was carried by both Elrond and his daughter Arwen. It was a completely original creation for the trilogy and was retroactively given history, having belonged to Idril, the Elven princess who married a mortal man and bore Elrond.
The sword could be found throughout the LOTR and Hobbit series, with Elrond using it against Ringwraiths in The Battle Of The Five Armies and slaying Orcs with it during the War of the Last Alliance. Additionally, it was passed down to Arwen, who wielded it when fending off the Nazgul on her ride to Rivendell with Frodo.
Hadhafang was thoroughly Elven in design, with a grace and dignity that made it look as elegant as a tool of death can be. It slayed many a foe and deserves its reputation.
