The Many Saints Of Newark Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

7. Alessandro Nivola's Fantastic Performance

The Many Saints of Newark Alessandro Nivola
Warner Bros.

Michael Gandolfini may have received the most attention of all the cast, but the lead actor of the piece is unquestionably Alessandro Nivola, who plays the hot-headed Dickie Moltisanti.

Nivola, a tremendously talented actor who has given memorable performances in the recent likes of Disobedience and The Art of Self-Defense, is brilliantly commanding as Dickie.

Filling the void left by Tony Soprano is no easy feat, and while Dickie can of course never live up to Tony's legacy, Nivola brings a fiery gravitas to the fore at all times.

Given that many fans may not have been all that curious about the past of Chris' father, Nivola makes him feel like a totally natural protagonist for this piece, and he absolutely runs away with the entire movie.
