The Matrix Resurrections: 25 WTF Moments

13. Old General Niobe

The Matrix Resurrections
Warner Bros.

One of the more poignant appearances from a legacy character was surely that of Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith), who shows up for a few scenes in Io, effectively the new version of Zion co-created by the humans and Synthients.

Niobe is a General, but given the 60 years that have passed she's now extremely elderly. Despite this, she's lost little of her forthright attitude and remains committed to ensuring the harmony between humans and Synthients by any means necessary.

Naturally as a result, she's not too keen on Neo's plans to disrupt the existing equilibrium and even has him imprisoned to this effect.

Neat though it is to see Niobe return to the fold, the so-so old-lady makeup and Smith's laboured old-person acting do invite a couple of unintended chuckles every now and then.
