The Menu Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
1. The Excellent Pacing
As much as so many of us love to complain that modern films are too damn long and just don't know when to end, you won't hear many bemoaning that The Menu is a slog.
At a pacy 106 minutes, this is a film that knows exactly what it wants to pull off and does it without excess fat or bloat. It certainly isn't rushed - especially not during its deliberate first act - but every single scene feels like it does something important or worthwhile.
And as mentioned, the consistent slew of revelations regarding the characters and their situation ensures there's really no dull downtime whatsoever.
It is an extremely propulsive and energetic piece of filmmaking that many other directors could clearly learn a thing or two from.
And before you know it it's over, and you'll probably wonder how the time breezed by so fast.
