The Midnight Sky Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

5. George Clooney's Terrific Performance

The Midnight Sky George Clooney
Netflix

No matter the film's dramatic flaws, George Clooney adds another strong performance to his cachet here, entirely believable as a broken down, desolate man filled with anguished regret.

The beard definitely helps, but in middle age Clooney's wrinkled brow and gravelly voice lend a real air of weight to buying him as a deeply lonely man trying to do one good thing before he succumbs to terminal illness.

Given that he spends much of his screen time either alone or working opposite a mostly mute child, Clooney has to convey much of Lofthouse's torment physically and he pulls it off splendidly.

The unfortunate byproduct of Clooney's magnetic watchability, though, is that he's sorely missed every single second he's off screen.
