The Mummy Review: 4 Ups & 7 Downs

4. Mediocre Action Sequences

The Mummy Sofia Boutella

In fairness, this was pretty damn obvious from the trailers: the action sequences in this movie are utterly generic nonsense, and it's tough to get viscerally invested in them for the most part.

Aside from that vertiginous first act plane crash sequence, the set-pieces are monotonous and unimaginative, lifting liberally from vastly superior adventure films but doing nothing to place its own stamp on the genre.

If you actually remember much of the action beyond the plane crash, you were probably paying more attention than the movie really deserves. For the majority, it's insanely forgettable and blurs together into a digital slop.
