Marvel Studios plans to completely reboot the X-Men franchise at some point in the next few years, and while there's been heaps of speculation about The New Mutants being incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some way, that's highly unlikely. Kevin Feige is no doubt well-aware of how poorly received many of Fox's X-Men movies have been, so why stick to their continuity?

Ultimately, it all becomes too complicated, and neither star Charlie Heaton nor Boone believe this take on the characters would be a good fit for the world inhabited by heroes like Thor and Black Panther.

"It's hard, because I think kind of what Josh is saying, this really feels so in its own world," the actor explains. "It's really hard to see them stood next to [MCU heroes]. They just don't compare. These are kids doing the best with what they have."

That's a sentiment the director agrees with, and it even sounds like the plan was for The New Mutants to remain separate from the rest of the X-Men Universe at Fox. "It would be really weird in this movie if Wolverine showed up," he says. "They're sort of in their own tonal space, and the aesthetic space is sort of its own thing. So, it'd be weird and interesting to see them kind of with other characters. But to me, if fans love it, we'd certainly love to make another one."

That's a nice thought, but don't count on it!
