The Predator Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

5. Some Of The Effects Are Under-Cooked

Some of the effect work in The Predator is brilliant, with the traditional Predator powers shown off wonderfully and Shane Black's penchant for action set-pieces really pushing his effects team. That said, the film is missing one truly memorable set-piece and one of those heroic last stands we've all come to expect from this franchise.

And there's a real problem with some of the other effects. The chief problems come courtesy of the Hell Hounds, which at times look on par with Zuul and Vinz Clotho from the original Ghostbusters movie. They don't really look finished.

The worst part of that is that the hounds are completely superfluous too. One of them sets up something in-story that doesn't happen and you end up with a sort of weird Scooby Doo vibe by the time the third act comes around that isn't entirely embraced either.
