The Predator Trailer 2: 9 Things You Might Have Missed

6. The Beeping

The Predator New Trailer
Fox

Ever since the original film, there has been an understood rule of thumb when it comes to the Yautja's honor: if by some chance they are to be defeated, they must initiate their self-destruct device.

Seeing Dutch overcome the Predator in the final act of the original film is so fulfilling, right up until he realizes that the Predator is triggering a device to take the whole jungle to hell with him. Dutch narrowly escapes, but few could ever forget the cold and distinct sound of the timer ticking down as the Predator unleashed Billy's laugh and Dutch ran for dear life.

That same ticking can be heard all throughout the second half of the new trailer. Starting at the 1:21 mark, as soon as the Predator puts his mask on, the beeping begins. The Predator putting his mask on looks to have been being held in the facility. So hearing the beeping cue up just as he regains his technology signals the change in power really well.

Plus, the 'from Shane Black' credit appears onscreen right after this, so it's also another clever and subtle way of enforcing the idea to viewers that Shane Black is distinctly tied to what so many love about the original film.

Also, the sound effect is just a great tension booster. It imbues the trailer with a kind of visceral suspense that is hard to come by.
