The Revenant: What To Expect Based On The Epic Trailer

2. An Ultra-Intense Tom Hardy

The Revenant DiCaprio
20th Century Fox

After playing it comparatively cool last year in Locke and The Drop, and grumbling his way through Mad Max this year, it looks like fans of intense Tom Hardy will have the actor they know and love on top form. He may not even get a line of dialogue in the trailer (not audible, anyway), but the eyes (and beard) say it all: Hardy's John Fitzgerald is a wild man capable of staring a hole through someone at 50 paces.

Hardy has shown before he can do a lot with very little, and even in The Revenant's teaser that characteristic intensity is evident in just a few frames. Whether he's aiming a rifle at DiCaprio's Hugh Glass or swatting one away, Hardy's Fitzgerald looks like one mean sonofabitch.

Amazingly, considering he's time and again cited as one of the best actors of his generation, Hardy has never even been nominated for an Academy Award. The Revenant looks set to change that - if his role proves to be substantial enough, there may even be a win on the cards.
