The Scary Movies Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Scary Movie 4
Opening with Shaq and Dr Phil in the set up of Saw was a surprising start for this film, but ultimately showed how its comedy was going to pan out. References, slapstick and cheap jokes. By no means were the first movies comedy masterpieces, but the humour didn't totally rely only on its tie ins to other projects.
Scary Movie typically focusses on one major film as a holding device and then adds references throughout its runtime. Unfortunately the centre on War of the Worlds feels so inappropriate in this outing, as it's less a horror film, and more a sci-fi action.
It's funny to go back and see the duo of Anthony Anderson and Kevin Hart playing some great comic roles. In addition, Leslie Nielson reprises his part as the president of the United States, playing up to his usual antics. Although they feel a little watered down, his presence is still fun.
But despite these few moments of promise it is a surprisingly dull outing. The film isn't helped by the stoic and lifeless performance from Craig Bierko as the leading figure. Anna Farris may continue to pull in her classic charm, but Bierko brings very little to the table.
It felt lifeless and existing only because the previous movies had been hits. Each film in the series has an identity, but this one simply has no personality to show.
