The Scary Movies Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Scary Movie 3
Scary Movie 3 had to work hard to make a good impression. It was the first instalment that didn't have any involvement from the Wayans. Seeing as the series was their project, it felt weird that this film was even happening without them. It indeed can be said that a lot of the comedy and personality was lost in this third instalment. Despite that, it did still have some good elements to it.
Firstly the teenage angle had been dropped, and now we were seeing adult characters dealing with the scenarios. This felt a little jarring at first as the immaturity felt less justified, but fun performances from Simon Rex, Charlie Sheen and Anna Farris helped it along. Additionally, Regina Hall is on top form as Brenda in this outing. The loss of the majority of the cast was disappointing, but at least we had Farris and Hall to bring some of the signature Scary Movie energy.
The focus on Signs brings up similar trouble to the fourth film. It felt more like a Sci-Fi parody than Horror. But the involvement of The Ring as a major figure helped to keep it grounded in scariness.
The producers went full out to make this work and did a perfectly decent job. You could feel the absence of the Wayans, but it at least tried to keep the spirit alive.
