The Simpsons: 10 Classic Episodes That Could Have Been Movies
6. 22 Short Films About Springfield (Season 7, Episode 21)
One of the most disappointing things about The Simpsons Movie is how so many fan-favorite characters of the show barely made an appearance. Most of them were really only used for side gags, such as Apu asking Mr. Burns to look into his heart, and Comic Book Guy wearing Marge's pregnancy pants.
It's hard to get too mad at the writers, though; after all, it must be a tough challenge trying to find roles for so many beloved characters of a show for its film. With that in mind, why not for their next movie, they create something like 22 Short Films About Springfield instead?
This is one of The Simpsons' most acclaimed episodes and doesn't even feature segments from the entire Simpsons cast of characters! There's no segment about Krusty the Clown or Hans Moleman or Abe Simpson, and some of the segments are so good they deserve even more time dedicated to them. Who wouldn't want a second segment of Skinner & the Superintendent?
While it certainly would make for an odd movie, seeing as how the short films in the episode felt more like skits rather than full stories, a movie could definitely be a chance for the writers to give every beloved character in The Simpsons their own comedic story — and it'll certainly solve the problem of a movie being unable to give every fan-favorite character of the series a prominent role.
