It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. Last Exit to Springfield is pretty much a virtually flawless episode of The Simpsons, so much so that if the writers were able to cram so many golden jokes and references into 22 minutes, imagine what they could've done with 90.

For starters, this episode is filled with so many great pop culture references such as The Beatles, Batman, The Godfather Part II, and The Grinch, and a longer running time could've meant even more great references.

More than that, the plot provides such a great scenario for a film as it pits Homer Simpson and Mr. Burns against each other. It even ends on a really great note: Homer getting one over his boss, which is definitely how we would've wanted Last Exit to Springfield to end had it been a movie.

While the episode already makes a lot of great jokes based on the situations provided by the plot, a longer running time would've even more great jokes based on Lisa getting her braces, Homer becoming a union leader, and Mr. Burns and Waylon Smithers trying to run the plant by themselves.

Not to mention, Union Strike Folk Song could've totally gotten a nomination for Best Original Song at the Oscars.
