The Single Biggest Mistake Every James Bond Film Has Made
12. Octopussy: Too Many Silly Gags
Octopussy is one of those times when the franchise really shot itself in the foot. With For Your Eyes Only, James Bond got back on track with a more serious tone, but in Octopussy the franchise went in completely the opposite direction and devolved into idiotic comedy once again. Why didn't the series just stick with the well-judged tone established in For Your Eyes Only? Who knows?
Some of the comedic scenes in this movie, most notably Bond running around dressed as a clown and swinging through some trees while doing a Tarzan yell are franchise low-points. Meanwhile, other moments like Bond using one of Q's cameras to ogle a woman's cleavage and, after giving an Indian man money, saying "that'll keep you in curry for a few weeks" are painful to watch.
Octopussy has its moments, but it is ultimately pretty weak and thanks to its excessive silliness, it's very hard to engage with. That's a bit of a trend with the Roger Moore films.
