The Vatican Tapes Trailer Delivers Your Next Round Of Devilish Horror

Lionsgate's latest hits US cinemas May 22nd.

The Vatican Tapes The most interesting thing about The Vatican Tapes is that Mark Neveldine has directed the film, independent of his Crank and Ghost Rider partner, Brian Taylor. He seems to be a lot more even tempered on his own. Not one shot in this appears to have been shot by a chimpanzee on roller blades or hyperactive ferret on a bungee cord. Crank 3 it is not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSi_2g6PoWo You would be forgiven for thinking that was one of Jason Blum's pictures, but it's from Lionsgate, the other guys singing from the cheap horror hymn sheet. But I stand by my comment that the most interesting thing is something from behind the scenes. Everything we see or hear in that trailer was utterly bereft of surprise, controversy or dramatic imperative. It looks like the kind of film I could easily sleep through - the perfect bit of programming for 5am in an all-night horror marathon. Still, it might be fantastic. I can't say the trailers for, say, Nicholas McCarthy's The Pact or At the Devils Door suggested anything like the calibre of film we actually received. Marketing materials lie. American audiences will get to see if The Vatican Tapes are anything more than meets the eye when the film hits cinemas on May 22nd.
