The Wolverine: 5 Big Blunders (But 5 Ways It Still Kicks Ass)

2. It's Leaps Ahead Of X-Men: Origins

the wolverine hugh jackman It might sound like a backhanded compliment, but man, wasn't this film just miles ahead of the decrepit mess that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Gavin Hood's wonky failure made a joke out of Wolverine, and though Jackman still did a fine job with what he had, it just showed no respect at all for the comic books, especially with how they basically turned Deadpool into Baraka from Mortal Kombat. Liev Schreiber was game for a workout as Sabretooth, but there was absolutely nothing there for comic book fans (or really, fans of good cinema at all...) The Wolverine, though far from perfect, rectifies many of the key problems from Origins, as far as the tone goes, the level of the action goes, and the chicanery of the narrative goes. With a character as popular and entertaining to watch as Logan, he certainly deserves a standalone film that reflects that awesomeness.
