The Worst Moment Of Every James Bond Film - Ranked

6. Live And Let Die - Rape By Deception

The World Is Not Enough
United Artists

Although Live and Let Die is a good Bond film in many departments, there is one huge problem with it: it's arguably the most sexist Bond film of all time and it's not ageing well as a result.

Of course, things were different forty years ago, but some of the material in this movie feels misogynist even for the seventies. Most of the film's worst scenes are examples of groan-worthy, dated elements such as the treatment of its female characters and the Blaxploitation homages, but this scene involving main Bond Girl Solitaire (Jane Seymour) is the worst.

Here, Bond basically commits rape-by-deception. Solitaire is a psychic in the employ of the film's main villain and Bond tricks her into sleeping with him by manipulating a pack of tarot cards to imply that they're meant to be together.

It's truly excruciating to watch and it leads to some ghastly plot elements later on, such as Bond very clearly only using Solitaire for information and the revelation that she was a virgin prior to her encounter with Bond. Once she has sex, the power of foresight is gone and Kananga, the film's antagonist, tries to kill her as a result.
