Thor: 10 Times The MCU Movies Were Better Than The Comics

8. Ditching His Old-Fashioned Speech Pattern

Since Thor is an ancient warrior raised in a kingdom beyond the stars, it would be strange if he didn't sound... well... strange. Being an otherworldly being, it would be jarring to hear Thor quipping like the other Avengers or use modern expressions. As a result, Thor speaks in a formal manner, rarely using contractions, slang, or colloquialisms.

But in the comics, Thor's dialect is more old-fashioned. Every time he opens his mouth, he delivers a pseudo-Shakespearean line, like "Have at thee!" and "Thor doth say thee nay!"

Although this speech pattern emphasises Thor's godly origin, it can be tiring to hear. In more recent comics, characters like Hercules have pointed out how non-sensical Thor's way of speaking is. In another issue, Iron Man said he'd donate $10 million to charity if Thor spoke less formally, which the Thunder God agreed to.

Because this Elizabethan verbiage gets repetitive, it was decided to keep it to a minimum in the films. Every now and again, the MCU version of Thor will slip out an old-fashioned term, like the time he called Coulson "son of Coul", but it's never done excessively.
