Surtur is an absolute must for the next Thor movie. He could be to Asgard and its people what Thanos has been up to now to Earth and its people, - the mastermind behind a master-plan to take it over, but who prefers to use minions to do so initially. Therefore, the story could turn out to be that the likes of Malekith and Kurse were acting upon the orders of Surtur and he has been waiting in the wings all along. A gigantic fire demon from Muspelheim, Surtur's powers in the comics match those of even Odin, who himself possesses power enough to destroy a galaxy, and therefore he would be a massive threat to the realm - and indeed every other realm. He has appeared as an ally of Loki's and Malekith's in the comic books and therefore could be written in as such without neglecting the source material. Surtur was in fact rumoured to have appeared in Thor: The Dark World - albeit briefly. In the scenes during the Convergence, there was a glimpse in to a fiery realm in which a fiery mass was moving around - could that have been Surtur himself? If Marvel want to up the ante in the villain stakes, including Surtur has got to be high on their list of priorities for Thor 3.
