This one is a slight cheat because Alan Taylor was not actively working on Season 3 of Game of Thrones at the time, which is where this comparison is drawn. I do however highly doubt that he hasnt been keeping up with a popular television series that he has clearly poured gallons of blood, sweat, and tears into. The scene itself Im referring to just screamed Game of Thrones to me as a callback to what- at the time- is a customary and celebratory death send-off in fantastical medieval times. Around halfway through Thor: The Dark World, Asgard is attacked by the Dark Elves and when the dust settles, his step-mother is murdered. Moments after, we are treated to a scene like the aforementioned one above, where the body is placed into a boat and sent downstream as archers fire off arrows to incinerate the remains. This same sequence can be seen with a minor character in Episode 3 Walk of Punishment of Season 3 in Game of Thrones. The only difference is that the budget and overall theatrics are amped up significantly in this Hollywood blockbuster superhero romp.
