Thor: Love And Thunder - Ending Explained
3. Gorr's Final Wish
Gorr the God Butcher's entire motivation throughout the movie is avenging the death of his daughter, Love. We know he's trying to get to the centre of the universe in order to be granted a wish, and the assumption by Thor is that he's going to use that wish to kill every god without having to slay them himself.
However, by the time we reach the final confrontation at the feet of Eternity, with both Gorr and Jane near death after their life-bringing weapons have been destroyed, Thor's final speech is to "choose love" instead of hate.
Rather than finishing Gorr off or even taking a wish, he turns to the dying Jane in order to comfort her in her final moments. This display is mirrored with Gorr, who then decides to use his wish to revive his daughter. Despite reservations that she'd have nobody to take care of her with him gone, Thor gives him his word that he'll take care of the child.
Ultimately, with the corrupting force of the god-slaying blade no longer flowing through him, Gorr makes the right choice and reverts back to who has was in the opening scene: a grieving father, but one who has finally put his faith in the right thing.
