Thor: Ragnarok - 10 WTF Comic Moments You Definitely Won't See
5. Thor's 90s Costume
Mike Deodato, Jr's incredibly detailed art has made him a top name in the business. Just make sure you don't ask him to actually design your superheroes.
The 90's were pretty notorious for how many heroes got awful new costumes in an attempt to reinvigorate their comics. What makes Thor's so weird though, is that there wasn't even an explanation for why he changed. After running around shirtless for a while, he suddenly had a new costume.
Somehow, the new outfit was a step down from the God of Thunder refusing to put on a shirt.
There's a lot to hate about this costume, from the general glam rock bondage party aesthetic, to the shirt which apparently shrank in the wash and, of course, the codpiece. The worst part though, is the giant chain attached to Mjolnir that seems to connect to Thor's ankle. It's a staggeringly pointless addition considering that his hammer both returns to him anyway and can't be stolen (or even lifted) by anyone else. The chain pretty much sums up 90's costumes as a whole, an addition that is as uncool as it is impractical.
Mercifully, this eyesore only lasted for four issues before Thor, again without explanation, went back to his old costume.
