Thor: Ragnarok - Everything We Know So Far

6. The Meaning Of 'Ragnarok'

In Norse mythology (and outside the context of the film), the word 'Ragnarok' refers to a series of cataclysmic events that lead to the deaths of a number of major characters, including Thor, Odin and Loki.

In the context of the film, the term refers to "the end of all things", according to Kevin Feige.

Given how closely that resembles the actual meaning of the word, can we expect any big deaths from the movie? Will Odin perish, or Loki? Thor is almost certainly safe given that he's in Avengers: Infinity War, but the other two haven't been confirmed for that film yet (by any official source).

Plus, Tom Hiddleston did make some interesting comments last year, when talking about his future in the MCU.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, the actor stated "Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years. This will be my last time out of the gate."

When asked for clarification, he explained that he hasn't been approached by Marvel regarding another appearance after Ragnarok, not necessarily that Loki dies in Ragnarok.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
