3. Is It Going To Be Cheesy As Ever?
One of the things I thought Marvel were going to do with this sequel is make it more dark and seriously-aligned, which is what seems to happen with pretty much every sequel that comes out these days (call it
Empire Strikes Back syndrome). Though the scope of these one does look absolutely epic (and the SFX look pretty awesome), I'm glad to see that it still kind of looks... cheesy? The original
Thor was pretty cheesy, given that it involved Gods wandering around their halls, talking in broad, theatrical, self-important sentences. It worked, though, 'cause it was done with just the right amount of self-awareness. In this trailer, there's a bit with Thor falling to his knees and yelling, "Nooooooooo!" I mean, you can't get more cheesy than that, can you? I, for one, will embrace this campiness wholeheartedly. There's only so much
Dark Knight-styled serious I can take when it comes to comic book adaptations - really, I just want them to be lots of fun (you know, like reading a comic), and
The Dark World seems to be embracing this, despite some bombastic overtones.
