1. Johnny Depp
Offenders: Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows See what I mean? Now before all of you say that this technically falls under the previous category, Johnny Depp has become in and of himself his own Burton cliche, and there is a difference between frequently using the same actors and actresses in various roles and casting the same actor over and over again as the main character. Quentin Tarantino has been known for his frequent collaborators but you don't see him casting John Travolta as the lead every other time. There's not really much I can say about this cliche that I haven't said about all the others. It's limiting Burton's creativity, it's not necessarily a bad thing - it would just be interesting to see him do something different for a change, it makes his work too easy to stereotype, it's funny as heck... etc. What? It is funny! When you watched the trailer for Dark Shadows for the first time you could either face-palm or just have a good laugh about it, and I know which one I'd rather do.
