Tim Burton: Ranking His Movies From Worst To Best

14. Planet of the Apes (2001)

url Tim Burton's remake/re-imagining/re-whatever of Planet of the Apes is truly strange - especially when you consider that - at the time, at least - Burton seemed perfectly suited to tackle something of the original's bizarro sensibilities. Like a lot of his worst movies, though, he skips on the story in favour of the visuals and emerges with a final product that is anything but memorable. Visually, there are sections of the film that one might find somewhat admirable, and Burton tries to infuse the film with the right B-movie tendencies, though ultimately the ham-fisted cultural intercuts (and an underwhelming Mark Wahlberg performance) leave the film feeling lightweight and shoddy. Not to mention an ending that has boggled film-goers for well over a decade.
