Tom Cruise signs up for Singer's WWII ensemble drama

cruisetom_c47163_400.jpgBryan Singer's next movie before directing the Superman Returns sequel has snapped up a huge star. Variety are reporting that Tom Cruise has signed on for the currently untitled WWII ensemble drama to be written by Singer's Usual Suspects screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie. The movie, which is also the second film to be produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner's newly re-formed production company United Artists is based on actual events, as German generals hatch the plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of WWII. Very cool. Like I said last week, as nice as it is to see Bryan Singer direct all these great superhero stories, we should not forget that he is a superb director whose non-comic book movies are frikkin' awesome. This flick is still in the early stages, but I would expect it to move quite fast as Warner Brothers are denying the movie will delay the production of the Superman Returns sequel, which is tentaively scheduled for 2009. source - variety
