Tom Hardy: 10 Roles That Passed You By

Starring Stellan Skarsgård as detective Eddie Argo investigating a series of murders in which victims have mathematical equations carved into their skin, WΔZ (pronounced W Delta Z) is a film which rightfully earns its comparisons to both Saw and Se7en. Taking its name from Price's Equation which analyses evolution from a mathematical standpoint, it is a film which subverts expectations whenever the opportunity arises. Not least in the case of Tom Hardy.

As a crew leader in a crime ridden ghetto of a desolate city, Pierre Jackson may seem like a usual Tom Hardy tough guy type, but it soon becomes apparent that looks can be deceiving. Described as a sadist by those on both sides of the law, he may well be more than happy to take matters, and shootings, into his own hands. When put in the hands of the killer and her twisted games however, his true self finally comes to the fore.

Tortured by a former rape victim out for revenge, Jackson is given the option of ending his pain, but only by killing his own grandmother. While most of the other victims also (eventually) opt in favour of self preservation, he does so with hardly a scratch on him. This comes much to the disapproval (although hardly surprise) of Argo, but something which is quickly rectified by members of a rival gang.
