Tom Holland's Movies Ranked Worst To Best
18. The Current War
The Current War was a reasonably forgettable 2017 dramatization of the electrical conflict between Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) as they strive to out-do one another in the field of delivering power to the people. While the premise is fascinating and the historical characters are ones that are well worth revisiting (in particular Nicholas Hoult's Nikola Tesla), this film often fails to inspire or keep interest.
The film was caught up in the initial allegations about Harvey Weinstein and shelved for more than a year, whether this had anything to do with its lacklustre reception is speculation, but it certainly held the film back from release. A deal had to be struck by two smaller companies to distribute it in 2017, to mediocre reviews.
Our Tom plays supporting role Samuel Insull, a pioneering businessman who threw in his lot with Edison, but ultimately loses out to Westinghouse's Alternating Current.
