Tomb Raider Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The Action Sequences Are...Not Bad

Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) does a solid job with the film's visuals, helping create stylish set-pieces out of even two fairly pointless sequences in the first act - the aforementioned foxhunt bike chase and Lara fending off a group of thieves in Hong Kong - not to mention all the action on the island.

It's a shame these moments aren't backed by a more interesting narrative and characters, and there's way too much talking in-between the running, shooting and tomb raiding, but from the cinematography to the surprisingly decent CGI, the action never drops below fine in the very least. For a video game movie, that's practically a miracle.
