5. The Perks of Being A Wallflower
Book-to-film adaptations are all the rage these days, and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower looks like another charming addition to this growing roster. Featuring Percy Jacksons Logan Lerman and Harry Potters substantially-more-famous Emma Watson, this new rendition of the MTV-published 1999 book of the same name should breathe new life into a dark and at times unnervingly realistic piece of literature. Theres little doubt in my mind that Watsons casting here might well have been an attempt by Summit Entertainment to garner extra cash based on her star appeal, but to be frank the actress more than proved her own in terms of performance quality in the final pair of Potter flicks, so I couldnt care less in this respect. Throw in cameos from the relatively loved comedian Paul Rudd, direction from the novels author Stephen Chbosky himself (allowing for a faithful rendition) and the annual Autumn goodwill cinema-goers often show to low-key productions such as these, and we could well have a sleeper hit on our hands. Released on October 3rd.
