6. The Campaign

Now, before you grab your pitchforks and ask me how I could dare place a blatantly shallow comedy on the list, one thats already had a variety of mixed reviews, hear me out. Its safe to say that every film-fan out there is more than justified in having their own guilty pleasures (be it mild things like animated flicks, or worse - Twilight), and for me its these kinds of easy-watching comedy films that are always sure to garner a good few laughs from me if not fits of hysteria when they strike a more successful chord. Just like Anchorman and Step Brothers before it, Will Ferrells new State-centric comedy The Campaign appears to have a general feel-good sense of fun and humour about it, something that just makes going to the cinema for a laugh feel worthwhile for one night early. The icing on the cake, though? Zach Galifianakis. Having blown comedy audiences away with laughter in the two Hangover romps, Galifianakis has starred in a couple of hit-and-miss features including Due Date and Dinner For Schmucks since his big debut, but in both instances hes been the undisputed comedy star of the show. For this up-and-coming hit to star alongside Mr. Ferrell in a full-length feature comedy just begs attention, and while The Campaign isnt going to be up everyones streets, for me it just looks like light-hearted viewing that will trump most other recent modern comedies in scale and ambition. Released on September 28th.
