Top 10 Rising British Directors

5. Paddy Considine

url-8 Paddy Considine is just a plain show off. Not content at being one of Britain's finest actors, he decides to try his hand at directing and it turns out he's brilliant at that too. His debut feature was the harrowing drama Tyrannosaur that explored themes such as alcohol abuse, religion and domestic violence. It is a personal film to Paddy, though he maintains it is not autobiographical. After years of working with Shane Meadows, it is clear to see that Meadows' talent has inspired Paddy and the social drama could easily have been directed by Meadows himself. Considine is uncompromising in his direction and the trio of performances he gets from Olivia Colman, Peter Mullan and Eddie Marsan are sublime. There is the question as to whether Considine will direct with any real consistency because of his acting duties and he seems more active than ever in that part of his career. But it doesn't really matter how often Considine directs if he continues to produce masterpieces such as Tyrannosaur.
