7) Village of the Damned

"There's nothing you can do to stop us..." The 1960 film adapted from John Wyndham's novel The Midwich Cuckoos is a kitsch classic, but it may not be the best movie in the world; John Carpenter's 1995 remake starring Kirstie Alley and Christopher Reeve is beyond redemption. However, either are fine if you want some "so bad it's good" entertainment. After a village falls under a strange sleeping spell, it appears that every woman of child bearing age is pregnant. The locals seem oddly underwhelmed by this, and accept the golden eyed spawn as their own until they are forced to address the fact that the kids have some dangerous skills in the "psychic power" department. The children themselves are too bizarre looking to be truly frightening, although I wouldn't TELL them that if I met one, obviously. Slightly oversized craniums, really bad wigs and some dodgy contacts make them a little comical to look at. However, their clipped tones and dispassionate attitude to killing make them memorably intimidating. Plus, their telepathy makes plotting to destroy them a somewhat tricky business. Just think of a brick wall....
