Toy Story 4 Trailer Reactions: 9 Ups & 3 Downs
1. It's A Much Better Sell Than Any Of The Material So Far
So far, the marketing for Toy Story 4 hasn't been great. It's whipped up fans who were already excited about its existence further and staunch Disney/Pixar fans were already right there, but in order to make a billion dollars like Toy Story 3, it has to do more than that.
So far, we've seen the weird Forky reveal video, which was a little inaccessible to casual audiences and that awful tease of new characters Ducky and Bunny (great casting though it is, the material in there was a little... questionable) and then some artwork (some of which was leaked before Pixar had the chance).
The long and short of it was that the key casual audience knew nothing about this film other than its title and that's not a big enough sale. This trailer, though, sets out the story, reintroduces the old gang and the old charm and fills in a lot of the gaps while adding new hooks to get new fans excited. It's a good trailer in entertainment terms and an effective one in terms of its reach. What more could we or Pixar want?
And now to the negatives...
