9. The Blue Umbrella

Blue Umbrella When Disney released the hand-drawn wonder that was Paperman on the front of Wreck-It Ralph, and proved exactly how well the medium could still work for adult storylines and how effective it could be to sell emotional stories (winning an Oscar in the process) it was hard to imagine that they would be able to top the impact of the short. But in The Blue Umbrella, which screened ahead of Monsters University this summer, Pixar proved that they too could lavish emotion onto their shorts, going even further that Paperman by imbuing the oddest of inanimate objects with a heart and the ability to love, in the shape of an umbrella. And fresh from his ordeal in attempting to find his red umbrella love, Blue appears in Toy Story Of Terror, when Bonnie walks outside the motel in the rain, with a suspiciously adult-sized umbrella in distinctive blue - as if Pixar wanted us to notice it more than a normal child's umbrella...
