Transformers 5: 10 Changes That Need To Happen

8. The Setting Needs To Move Away From Earth

There's only so many times you can completely destroy the greatest cities on Earth before the concept becomes extremely stale. Every film in the series to date has culminated in a gigantic scene of devastating conflict between the Transformers that has left the surrounding area in total ruin. Chicago is destroyed not once, but twice during the course of the films. Hong Kong is laid to waste by the Dinobots and the fictional 'Mission City' gets torn to pieces in the first Transformers. That's a lot of destruction for four films to dole out, but in all honesty, once you've seen giant robots destroy metropolitan areas once, you've seen it enough times to get the gist of it. For the collateral damage to have any meaningful effect in future films, the action set-pieces either need to take place away from Earth, or the violence needs be more varied beyond finding the biggest city to destroy next. If the series ever does move the Earth setting, the most obvious answer for where to set it is going to be Cybertron - The Transformer home planet. Yes, the mechanical sphere was partially destroyed at the end of the third film, but a story that involves the Autobots trying to restore their home to its former glory by actually, you know, going there, would be far more interesting than watching us useless humans run for our lives a fifth time.
