This one's a biggie, and it almost always comes up as a criticism when a new entry in the series is released. From the just plain awful scenes involving Sam's parents from the first film to giving some of the Transformers almost childlike personalities upon their arrival on Earth - there's no shortage of cringeworthy scenes sprinkled throughout the four films. Unfortunately, the dumbness factor doesn't stop there. Giant metal wrecking balls that are referred to as Transformer testicles, flatulent robots and deeply unfunny characters (looking at you, Seymour Simmons), are all offenders at one point or another. Prior to Age Of Extinction's release, Bay stated numerous times that the goofy humour would be toned down if not completely absent from the fourth film, and while he somewhat delivered on his promise, it seems that he just couldn't resist having at least a few idiotic 'comic relief' characters shoved in for basically no other reason than to annoy. Joshua Joyce (Stanley Tucci), the billionaire founder and owner of the company responsible for creating "Transformium" in Age Of Extinction, is supposed to be a hilariously over-the-top and lighthearted comic relief character, but his presence just feels utterly out of place and disruptive to the serious tone of the film. For all of Bay's strong points, subtlety isn't one of them. Comic relief can be good, but not when it's shoved in your face.
