Transformers: The Last Knight Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

3. The Distracting Aspect Ratio Switches

Because Michael Bay shot The Last Knight at eight different aspect ratios, the film has to routinely switch between them, often mid-scene, resulting in a jarring experience where black bars may appear or disappear depending on the shot.

The bulk of the film was reportedly shot on IMAX cameras, which look undeniably terrific, but it's hard to stay fully focused on what's happening, especially during the action, when the frame is altered so noticeably at a moment's notice.

Nobody's doubting the movie's strong technicals, but still, would it have killed Bay to at least swap ratios a little less often?
