Transformers: The Last Knight Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

5. Anthony Hopkins' Genuinely Entertaining Performance
The fact that an actor of Anthony Hopkins' stature is even in this movie speaks to just how pervasive the Transformers series is...and just how well they pay their actors.
Following on from the likes of John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Stanley Tucci in previous films, Hopkins is the too-talented-for-the-material actor roped in this time, and while he could've easily just sleep-walked his way through it, impressively he actually fully commits to the script.
What's most surprising is that Hopkins actually has a substantial role in the film, appearing for around 40-or-so minutes and not merely providing an exposition dump as expected.
Rather, Hopkins gets to drop some outrageous one-liners, goof around with his ninja robot servant Cogman, and even race around in a car during a set-piece. He's the easy highlight of the movie overall, and absolutely earned his paycheck. Plus, he actually seems like he's having fun, which is nice.
