Uncharted Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. It Makes ONE Smart Change From The Source Material

Again, credit where it's due - this adaptation makes one very smart change from the video games that should please many fans.

Ever since the start of the video game series, there's been a lot of ambivalence about Nate using guns to relentlessly mow down hordes of enemies, enough that Uncharted 4 actually toned down the gunplay considerably.

For many players, the shooting just felt like a stressful, irritating imposition upon the far more enjoyable exploration, puzzles, and fistfights, and this film quite smartly keeps guns mostly on the periphery.

Yes, Nate and Sully's enemies often have guns, but the two rarely handle firearms themselves, because this movie certainly didn't need a sequence where they relentless unload bullets into a seemingly never-ending wave of armoured bad guys.

Gunplay is arguably the worst aspect of the games, and bar a few brief shootout moments it's quite smartly excised here.
