Uncharted Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
3. There Are Two Decent Action Sequences
Though the majority of the movie's set-pieces are totally devoid of energy and creativity, let's give credit where it's due - there are two worthwhile action sequences crammed into the third act.
The movie's trailers have extensively showcased its elaborate riff on Uncharted 3's iconic cargo plane fight - which both opens the movie in medias res and picks back up in act three - and despite some less-than-stellar CGI, it's relatively slick and entertaining to watch. If, perhaps ironically, looking rather like a video game cutscene itself.
The real highlight, though, is the high-wire finale, which involves swordfights, flying duelling pirate chips, helicopters, and cannonballs, among other things.
It's clearly where the bulk of the money was spent, and it's as close as the movie ever gets to being genuinely entertaining.
