20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Are Already DOOMED
5. Sleepaway Camp Reboot
More than 40 years after its release, Sleepaway Camp continues to be one of the most iconic and heavily debated slasher films of all time, and though numerous reboots and remakes have been attempted over the years, none have raised eyebrows quite like this one.
In September 2025, it was announced that Kenan Thompson - yes, that one - had acquired the rights to remake Sleepaway Camp in collaboration with the original film's writer-director, Robert Hiltzik.
Even ignoring the questionable ability of Kenan of all people to produce a worthy remake of Sleepaway Camp, what would a remake even look like in 2026?
Considering the original film's big twist and how society has progressed with regard to trans visibility since its release, it will require an extremely careful and considered approach.
And frankly, does anyone think that the original film's writer, who hasn't penned a film in almost 20 years no less, is a better fit for this than a fresh, young talent with a more current perspective?
On top of all this, considering that Jane Schoenbrun's new film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma riffs so eagerly on Sleepaway Camp and its legacy, a remake feels woefully redundant.
