20 Upcoming Movies That Have Made ONE Big Mistake

8. Failing As A TV Series - Hostel 4

Considering that the Hostel franchise is an undeniable product of its time, being a quintessential staple of the "torture porn" horror subgenre of the mid-2000s, many understandably assumed the IP would just stay there.

But after years of rumours, in 2024 it was announced that a Hostel TV series was in development with an intent to "reinvent" the franchise, all while creator Eli Roth was set to return as director and Paul Giamatti cast in a lead role.

However, Roth recently confirmed that streaming service Peacock ultimately decided to pass on producing the TV series, and so he has decided to rework it as a feature film instead.

It's difficult not to see that as a red flag - after all, how many cancelled TV shows have ever been successfully repackaged as movies?

It's hardly a great sign going in, without even considering the challenges of compressing a TV season's worth of storytelling into a film, nor the absolutely appalling reviews of Roth's most recent horror movie, Ice Cream Man.

Don't be shocked if this one never actually ends up happening.
