20 Upcoming Movies That Have Made ONE Big Mistake

9. Selling It As Johnny Depp's Comeback - Ebenezer

Ebenezer
Paramount Pictures

There are few stranger film projects currently in post-production than Ebenezer - a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol starring Johnny Depp as Scrooge, and most puzzlingly of all directed by cult horror filmmaker Ti West (X, Pearl, MaXXXine).

And the recently released trailer turned a lot of heads because of the bizarre decision to frame the film as the grand, hallowed Hollywood return of star Depp, following his major career downturn over the past decade and well-trod legal issues.

The trailer makes pains to point out Depp's most iconic roles, such as Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands, while dubbing him the "Master of Misfits," all of this feeling like a woefully desperate marketing hook for a film that might struggle to get much attention otherwise.

Paramount is clearly putting all their eggs in the Depp basket rather than illustrating how this adaptation is any different from the other ones, nor showcasing the stupendous ensemble cast including Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen.
