20 Upcoming Movies Absolutely NOBODY Wants
11. Dirty Dancing 2
Dirty Dancing is undeniably one of the most iconic and beloved movies of the 1980s, though various attempts to franchise-out the concept have generated wildly mixed results.
There's the swiftly-cancelled 1988 TV spin-off, the 2004 Diego Luna-starring (!) flop prequel Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, the admittedly successful stage musical adaptation, and a baffling, panned 2017 made-for-TV remake starring Abigail Breslin.
A direct sequel had been tentatively discussed since 1988, and in 2020 was finally confirmed with Jennifer Grey attached to reprise the role of Baby, while Jonathan Levine (50/50) was initially set to direct before recently departing the project.
But the very obvious issue with a Dirty Dancing legacy sequel is that Patrick Swayze won't be in it, having passed away back in 2009, at which point the prospect of Dirty Dancing 2 basically lost its lustre.
Yes, this legacy sequel will surely pay dew-eyed tribute to Swayze's Johnny Castle, but the hope of producing a sequel that fans of the original actually wanted to see pretty much died with Swayze.
