9. Resident Evil
A new adaptation of legendary survival horror video game franchise Resident Evil is currently in production, and in a surprising move it's being written and directed by one of the hottest horror filmmakers working today - Weapons' Zach Cregger.
Last year Cregger confirmed that his film wouldn't feature any of the many iconic characters from the games but instead function as an original story within the world of said games.
It's a bold approach but it's also easy to trust Cregger given the quality of his first two movies, as well as his recent declaration the story will be inspired by the second, third, and fourth games in particular.
We know that the ensemble cast includes Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, and Kali Reis, but have little information about these original characters or the wider particulars of the plot - beyond them being stuck in the midst of a zombie apocalypse of course.
Again, though, Cregger's expertise as a filmmaker makes it easy to have blind faith that he'll at least deliver something interesting even if it's not particularly reverent to the plot of the games.
