Back in December, Paramount confirmed that an eighth entry into the Paranormal Activity franchise was in the works, with James Wan set to produce alongside creator Oren Peli, while rising indie filmmaker Ian Tuason (Undertone) will direct for a May 21, 2027 release.
Beyond Paramount confirming that Paranormal Activity 8 will be aiming for a theatrical release, we know absolutely nothing about the form it might take.
For one, will it retain the found footage aesthetic of the prior films or shift into a more strictly cinematic narrative mode?
And will it function as a direct sequel to the previous films, perhaps even featuring an appearance from original protagonist Katie Featherston, or will it effectively act as a soft reboot?
Given that Paranormal Activity felt well and truly played out by the time its last theatrical entry was released in 2015, the new film absolutely needs to make some bold choices and do something totally unexpected.
