20 Upcoming Movies We Know NOTHING About

17. 28 Years Later Part III

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Sony Pictures Releasing

When 28 Years Later was finally confirmed to be happening, it was also announced as part of a prospective trilogy written by Alex Garland, with the first two films being shot back-to-back.

However, production of a potential 28 Years Later Part III depended entirely on the box office performance of the second film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which recently flopped.

Even though Sony had already greenlit the third film after positive early screening reactions to The Bone Temple, the studio hasn't said anything since its general release to calm fans' fears that they could end up cancelling it.

Moreover, it's entirely possible the brutal box office collapse forces Sony to consider some sort of creative pivot for the next film, while being produced for a much lower budget.

While The Bone Temple's ending suggests that Part III will revolve around Spike (Alfie Williams), Kelly (Erin Kellyman), and Jim (Cillian Murphy), Garland's clear penchant for subverting expectations means that basically anything could happen - if the film actually gets made, that is.
